Mission & Goals


Mission:

UNRWA (the UN agency for the Relief and Works Agency in the Near East) to provide support, protection and advocacy for about 5 million Palestinian refugees registered with in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territories to be a solution to their plight.
UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions from Member States of the Organization of the United Nations.
UNRWA is the main provider of basic services (education, health, relief and social services) for a total of 5 million Palestinian refugees in the Middle East.


Goals:

1 - Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger: The agency provides food and financial assistance to the most vulnerable and the poorest refugees, and ensures availability of adequate shelter for these families.
2 - Promote gender equality and empower women: The Agency has allocated micro-credit program to support women entrepreneurs’ small business from their homes.
3 - Achieve universal primary education: all children registered with the Agency can get from nine to ten years of free primary education.
4 - Reduce child mortality and improving maternal health: a life-cycle approach to the UNRWA gives special emphasis on maternal and child health.
